It's been an interesting 2 months since we announced the launch of Africa Trust Group's gender-lens fund focused on investing in early-stage women owned and/or led businesses; and/or businesses who's services or products benefit women mostly.
Following that announcement at a high level SADC development finance conference in Joburg we received applications, met with and have analysed hundreds of businesses - some solid, others not so solid - making it feel a lot longer than 2 months .
During one particularly frustrating week of analysing too many 'not-so-solids', I texted my friend Brad moaning about it and he replied, 'The joy is in the journey, not just the destination.' A good reminder to take in and appreciate the learning and building process as much as hitting the goals.
So in the spirit of celebrating that journey we launched a limited edition of collector wines in partnership with Dormeshire wine estate in Stellenbosch dedicated to Africa's women who are TRYING. Trying real hard to build and lead businesses on this tough yet exciting continent; trying to educate themselves; and trying to raise good families and build strong communities - you're all royalty and deserve to be celebrated.
Without further ado… introducing her majesty the queen... The Empress. A limited edition of collector wines . 50% of profits go back to investing in Africa's women. Enjoy every sip this festive season knowing you're investing in Africa's women and the continent as a whole. This is yet another one of my personal dreams realised. Thank you to everyone who's been part of my journey. Special thanks to my husband Sandras - I am because you are.South Africa Launch
